Aviation has long been seen as a field dominated by men, but today, more women are stepping forward and pursuing their paths in the industry. This Women’s Month, we shine a spotlight on aspiring pilots, flight attendants, and aircraft mechanics from OMNI’s training programs as they share their journeys, challenges, and motivations.

For cabin crew trainees Bridget and Kiara, becoming a flight attendant was a childhood dream they were determined to pursue.

“And then I was like, ‘I need to become a flight attendant,’” Bridget recalled, sharing how watching travel/tourism videos as a young girl inspired her to dream of flying and exploring the world.

But to turn those dreams into reality, they need the right training which led them to choose OMNI Aviation.

“We know that this will be our training ground in achieving our dreams to become flight attendants,” Kiara said on choosing OMNI as their training school.

Aside from Bridget and Kiara, our aircraft maintenance trainees, Camille and Nove Anne, dreamt of soaring the skies at a young age as well. While their path led them to a different area of aviation than they had originally envisioned, they believe that this experience will be a stepping stone towards achieving their dreams. During the interview, they shared the challenges and doubts they initially faced during training.

Coming into the field where men make up the majority felt intimidating at first, especially seeing how few women were part of the program. But they refused to let this discourage them from excelling.

They also emphasized the importance of teamwork and support, acknowledging their male colleagues who helped create a welcoming learning environment.

“Parang at first mahirap mag fit-in as a woman kasi bilang lang talaga kami dun sa field. Pero how we conquered it, siguro kasi ‘yung mga guys na kasama namin sa maintenance field namin is very friendly din so nakakausap namin sila, natuturuan din nila kami sa mga dapat gawin,” Nove Anne shared in an interview.

Despite those challenges, their training experience has also been filled with meaningful and good experiences.

“...dito parang ayun nga nagiging hands-on ka, nagagawa mo ‘yung parang nilelecture lang o theoretical lang na sinasabi sa inyo tulad ng: marshal, pag-handle ng mga instrument kung pa’no talaga sila gumagana na actual mo silang nakikita ganun,” Camille narrated her training experience with OMNI.

Pilot trainee Aly emphasized that quality training was her top priority when searching for a flight school to begin her journey as a pilot. Her research eventually led to OMNI Aviation, a training school known for producing airline pilots, a goal she aspires to achieve as well.

“Quality is very important for me. So I made sure to research all of the flight schools that are available and I saw that there are a lot of trainees that completed their training here and ended up becoming airline pilots. Since ‘yun naman ang dream ko sa buhay, let’s go to a place where there’s already a path towards it,” she said.

Aly admitted that at the beginning of her training, she was a bit conscious of how she should present herself in the flight school. However, she soon realized that beyond gender or anything, everyone shares the same purpose — to fly.

What stood out most to her was the sense of community within OMNI Aviation.

“The community, actually. Very welcoming lahat, everybody says Hi, everybody greets you and then may mga random ayas na lang, ‘tara lunch, tara dinner’ and it feels less isolating when you have people you can lean on,” she shared when asked what she loved most about being in the field.

These women shared words of encouragement for those aspiring to pursue a future in aviation. They motivate and inspire more women to step forward with confidence and embrace their place in the aviation industry.

“Do not let your fears stop you. Do not let them destroy what you want or what you are dreaming [of],” Bridget said.

Meanwhile, Kiara reflected on the challenges one may experience in their journey, “....it’s not always easy. There are challenges, doubts, and expectations but as we take off it reminds us that we too, can take flight.”

“...never be afraid to work with your passion. Kasi I believe na kapag ginawa mo ‘yung gusto mo talaga, passion mo siya hindi mo na iisipin ‘yung sasabihin ng iba,” said Nove Anne.

For Camille, dedicating time and effort to a goal is already a feat not everyone could do.

“If you really love your passion po, just do it. Walang pwedeng pumigil sa’yo kung gusto mo talaga is gusto mo.”

“Kayang-kaya niyo ‘yan. I mean, at the end of the day, it’s not about your gender, it’s not about your upbringing, it’s not about where you’re from. It’s all about who you are, your passion, and what you can do,” Aly, motivating women to pursue their dreams.

This Women’s Month, OMNI Aviation proudly celebrates women who continue to inspire change, uplift one another, and prove that the sky is never the limit. We remain committed to empowering and supporting women in aviation, helping them soar higher and achieve their dreams.
